Comfort and beauty in a historic house in the garden of Liguria

We love this house because of its fantastic terrace with great views over the river and the valley including some old watermills. And after carefully renovating the house in 2010 we now have a perfect integration of modern amenities in a historic setting and a balance between comfort and simplicity. Facing outwards from the city center there is no traffic noise –only the river and the birds.
The house (as the village) is build on a steeply sloping cliff - so be prepared for many stairs and steps (not suitable for people with mobility problems).
You enter the house at street level which is also the cellar level (Cantina). One flight of stairs brings you to the large living room where you will notice the vaulted ceilings and white walls found throughout the property and the original historical tiles on the floor.
A few steps more and you arrive at the residential section with three bedrooms (new double beds) – The third unique ‘parents' bedroom’ with a window directly on the river. On this level is also a combined shower and WC – also completely renovated.
A final flight of stairs brings you to the kitchen and a fourth small single person bedroom. The kitchen is renovated with gas stove, oven, dishwasher and fridge. It is fully equipped with good quality kitchenware. 6-7 people easily dine in the kitchen.
From the kitchen there is direct access to the east and south facing terrace with sun exposure until late afternoon . A triangular sail will bring shadow when needed and in season a dozen of pots with aromatic herbs will add flavor to your meals. Tenants are kindly asked to water the pots daily to the benefit of all.
The main square in the village is a 5 minutes walk up and often animated with local choirs, music bands and events every weekend at the main square with delicious meals served at long tables. Attractive food shops, including several butchers, three bars, an ironmonger and a cheap family style restaurant, and an ice cream bar attracts crowds. Still relatively few tourists, but many locals that are proud of their village –cultural events organized all summer. Refreshing swimming in river water 400 m2 pool 2 minutes walk away from the house. Strolling around the village brings new discoveries and magic of 1000 years of history.

The village is also the point of departure for several hiking trails to San Giovanni (1h 15), Monte Merlo (2h) and 40 minutes by car to Monte Ceppo (1627m) overlooking the whole area. In neighbouring villages you will find a number of interesting restaurants with local produce and regional dishes. Excursionscould include the famous Saturday morning market in Sanremo, Bussana Vecchia, Caves and of course Nice at 1h 10.
